Eileen Cook is a multi-published author with her novels appearing in eight different languages. Her books have been optioned for film and TV.  She spent most of her teen years wishing she were someone else or somewhere else, which is great training for a writer. Her newest book, WITH MALICE, will be out in June 2016. You can read more about Eileen, her books, and the things that strike her as funny at Eileen lives in Vancouver with her husband and two very naughty dogs and no longer wishes to be anyone or anywhere else.

Have you ever gotten up in the middle of the night to work on your book? Yes. I thought everyone did this. Now I’m left wondering if I’m weird.  Most of the time if I wake up I’ll make a short note of whatever feels brilliant at 2am and then go back to sleep, but there have been a few occasions when I’ve sat down at the keyboard and written because what was in my head was perfect.

Would you fight me for the chips and guacamole or take the chocolate I’ve set out as a decoy so I can eat them all myself? I would grab the chocolate for later and then fight you for the chips and guac.  However, I am a good person so I would share the chocolate later

Have you ever used in your own writing something you overheard someone say? All the time.  One of the best things about being a writer is the chance to listen to conversations in coffee shops and parks and figure out how you might be able to use them. Observing not only what people say, but also more importantly- what they don’t say is a critical skill for writers.  One line I am still waiting to use was overheard at my local Starbucks. It was the holiday season and a couple was arguing about the real reason for the season. The woman yelled at him “I hope you realize that Santa is nothing more than the clown at Jesus’ birthday party.”  I actually got up from my table and asked the clerk for a pen so I could write that line down before I forgot it.

What do you want to be in your next life (real or metaphorically speaking)? I’m having a pretty good life this go around. If I could do it again a bit wiser that would be great. Also, based on how cushy my two dogs have it being a dog who belongs to people who spoil them is pretty good

Could you type one handed if you have to (like if you lost the guacamole fight)? Yep- if I had no other way to get it down I’m pretty sure I could type with my huge honker of a nose! Anything to get the story down.
